Like Seventh Grade

It feels like seventh grade
like losing all I thought I knew
daily doses of disillusionment
for all but the blissful few

I used to know my way around
but now Im at the wrong classroom
And somebodys handing me stacks of Steinbeck
when I want more Judy Blume

It feels like seventh grade
the end of the happy ending
the battles waging on
and no one hears I am surrendering

Wistful sighs from passersby
telling me how good Ive got it
Taking my turn at glory days
You can have it if you want it

It feels like seventh grade
no one believes this is my best
Ive worked so hard to get here
and now I cant pass the test

Say, say, oh playmate
Ive grown too old to play
Its time to be a good girl
and work my life away
