Angry Lemons

Late last night
without any reason
I opened the refrigerator door

I stood and stared
waiting for something
Unaware of what I was looking for

My bare feet cold
bright eyes blind
and my dilemma quite unsolved

In the distant void
of my living room
I heard my name was called

"In a minute"
I thought to answer
to my cousin's voice

I'm looking for the juice
of angry lemons,
The lemons have no choice.

But lemons
don't get angry,
as every child knows

So I took my sunny
yellow anger
and my chilly toes

Into the living room
where I was called
to hold on to the baby

Without any anger and
without lemon juice
I sat there going crazy
