Afterglow
I long to live in the afterglow
of what will never be
Remembering things that were not so
our past, like destiny
I want to look back my dear
on what we're not about to do
Remembering us loud and clear
and all I'd meant to you
No nervous anticipation
pondering if you feel the same desire
Just nostalgic celebration
of how we'd once set our world on fire
Knowing it had its chance to burn
and that the spark is not so bright
Having tasted that for which I yearn
and knowing it don't fit right
Oh to bask in the friendship built
on what we'll never know
Warmed by its embers without guilt
in that marvelous afterglow
